Super Foods List

Our bodies use energy to digest the foods and beverages we consume on a daily basis. Some foods need more energy to digest then others, which requires more activity from the body. Fat burning foods are foods that your body can burn with little or no effort using less energy. Our bodies’ energy is responsible for more than just burning fat; it also runs our everyday bodily functions. Our brain and bodies are fueled by energy that is gained from the foods that we eat. Foods that are high in nutrients, but low in fat are what we like to call “priority food” or some call Super Foods. These Super Foods are food items the body chooses to use first. Things like protein, some carbohydrates and nutrient filled items are first to be used on the bodies list of consumed substances. Because the body uses energy to digest these items and break them down, low fat items are using less energy to digest, leaving more fuel for the body’s daily activities. When the body needs less energy to digest foods it can focus all its fuel to body function. Every part of our bodies function requires fuel to operate, which determines how much fuel the body needs. The harder the body works the more fuel it requires. When the body has more fuel to use, it requires more calories to be burned. If you have already consumed your daily intake of low fat and high in nutrient food, your body turns to stored fat to use as fuel. So in result the less energy your body spends on digesting food the more it can use to burn stored calories.

Example: the average person may use about 2,000 calories per day to function. When you eat high fat, low nutrient foods such as processed, high starchy or sugary foods your intake for the day might reach 4,000 calories. This means that 2,000 calories will be burned and used for energy and body function. The remaining 2,000 calories will be stored and untouched until your intake drops below what your body needs to function. The more active you are, the more fuel you will require, which results in your body using more calories. This allows more calories to be consumed each day or a balanced burning process. Metabolism plays a key role in how much fuel your body uses. If you have a low metabolic rate, your body works much harder to burn the same foods everyone else eats. When the body works slower it has less fuel and energy to offer for function, resulting in not only less energy, but also less calories being burned each day.

To lose weight or keep a healthy weight the key is to eat a healthy and balanced combination of foods. If you’re simply looking to stabilize weight, keeping your daily food intake balanced with what your body requires to function is all it takes for this stability. Those looking to lose weight must keep their intake lower then the daily requirement.

If you are looking to lose weight or just retain a certain weight, here is a list of low fat high nutrient “Priority Foods” or Super Foods that will cut down the time spent on digestion and more time spent on burning.
